Penalties are rarely the result of intent. They are the result of ownership gaps. A compliance calendar assigns a name and a date to every obligation, and reviews it in the same meeting every month.

Map every obligation once

GST returns, TDS payments, PF and ESI, advance tax, ROC filings, and sector licences — list them with frequency, due date, preparer and reviewer. The exercise takes a day and pays for itself the first time an audit is raised.

Separate preparer and reviewer

Single-person compliance is a single point of failure. A second pair of eyes before filing catches the reconciliation errors that later become notices.

Review it in the monthly close

Compliance status belongs on the same page as the P&L. When the board sees green and amber every month, exceptions get resolved while they are still small.
